My Dresser in Pebble Beach

Oh my...it's been a minute since I've shared a post. I'd really love to tell you how busy I've been and how much I've accomplished, but the truth is...I've been lazy. Like, sit in my pjs on the couch and Netflix all day kind of lazy. To be fair, I've been working really hard at work, and traveled two weeks out of the last month, all the while, doing what I can in-between. Can you blame me for watching reruns of "Once upon a time?" Love that show!

So between seasons of my latest addiction, I managed to finish this dresser that has been sitting in the garage since we moved. It was my very first dresser that I bought when I got back from my first deployment. I had just moved into my first apartment on my own and I wanted to splurge on myself after sleeping in a twin bunk with 4 other room mates in a trailer, somewhere in the middle of Iraq for six long, months. I bought this dresser in a set, but both the headboard and nightstands have moved on to other homes.

After six years of moving around with me, this cherry colored dresser needed a makeover. It's a huge, heavy dresser but I wanted it to freshened up. I'm sure the old world wood stain look will come back in style one day, but for now, it needed a refreshing change. I  started by just giving it a light sanding with 220 grit paper (it really was in mint condition. Then I used my critter gun to spray my favorite primer, Zinsser Shellac-based primer. I did two coats with sanding in between.

I used a high density foam roller to paint this piece. I used Country Chic Paint in "Pebble Beach." I don't know why, but I wanted to hand paint this piece. I've sprayed CCP before with the Critter, but I guess I needed to take my time with this one. After all, we've been through so much together. I rolled on about 4 coats, used a brush to get into the crevices and sanded in-between each coat with 220 grit.

I sealed it in General Finishes High Performance Top coat in Satin. I made sure to add about 5 coats to the surfaces that would get heavy duty wear, like the top and drawer fronts. General Finishes top coat is my favorite to seal any kind of paint with. It gives such a lasting, durable finish and it's so easy to work with!

I left the hardware the original tarnished bronze color. The legs are original to the dresser, but this was the first time this dresser had ever worn them. They sat in a box in my storage for 5 years before this old gal tried on her new shoes. The height this dresser is now just makes such a statement in a room. It's so perfect for an entryway or in a media room.

I miss being able to dedicate the time I used to, to my projects. But in the end, I lost a lot of quality time with my husband and kiddo, and I've found that I've wound myself up with trying to fill every available moment with something to do, and when I don't have a task or a project...I feel like I'm supposed to be doing something. I rarely stop to smell the roses anymore, even though their all dead (because I forgot to water them). I might have to add that to my to-do this. Cheers y'all! Enjoy your weekend, and don't forget to water your plants!
