Azores Mini Dresser

Truth be told, I did not pick out this piece. My husband was supposed to make a quick trip to the gas station and he ran into a garage sale. I gave him a hard time about it because there was nothing charming about it...to me it was just a blah, big box furniture store piece. He got a good deal on it,so it went to the back of the garage to wait it's turn.

Since I've been doing more custom work lately, it's been hard for me to work on my own pieces. But paint has to dry and poly has to seal, so the in-between time is really where I get the itch to paint. So we brought this piece inside and it was my intention to paint it by hand. Since we've transitioned to spray painting, I really miss hand painting. It's my therapy!

A while back, I ordered a custom color from Country Chic Paint. I love that they offer a color matching service and as long as you send them a color chip, they can match any paint color. They already have most of Benjamin Moore's colors in their system, so all I had to do was provide the name and color number for them to match. I originally planned to use this color on a bookshelf from my spare bedroom that ended up being sold as is. So I decided to use this color, called "Azores," to give this mini-dresser a refreshing pop of color.

There is just something about this color that is so refreshing! It's not quite green and not quite blue. If I had to describe it, I'd call it a minty jade. I sealed with 3 coats of HPTC in Satin.

Since I'm laying all my honesty out here for you all to read, I must be honest in saying that painting this frustrated me. I spoiled myself with the finish of spray painting and I was very impatient with this piece. It took too long to paint by hand, I could see brush strokes(even though I sanded between coats.I guess my eyes have become accustomed to a spray finish), and it took several coats to get an even finish. So, I sanded back the brush stroked as best I could, and sprayed the final coat in 3 minutes. It took me 3 days to finish this piece, two spent fixing my hand painting. Spray painting is a love-hate relationship...Love the finish, hate that it took the  "process" out of my finish.

I also had a different idea for knobs. I had these cute white porcelain knobs with a brass floral inlay that Hobby Lobby used to carry, but I only had three. Went to Hobby Lobby the next day to stock up and of course...my luck they don't carry those knobs anymore. So I figured, these cute-sie porcelain pie knobs would look great and simple.

I finished off the drawers with the remaining Target wallpaper I had that just so happened to match this piece perfectly! I really like how this blah piece turned out. It gave me my paint fix and it turned out better than I thought it would. Turns out, someone fell in love with it right away because it sold the same day in my booth.

Hope you enjoyed! Ill be using this color more often!
